SafePing (“we”, “our”, “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.
2. Information We Collect
Phone Number
We collect your phone number for authentication purposes. Your phone number is used to create and verify your account and is visible to members of your family group.
Display Name
You provide a display name that is shown to your family group members. You can change this at any time in your profile settings.
Location Data
We collect your precise location only when:
- You actively respond to a Ping request
- You manually refresh your location during an active Ping
We do not continuously track your location in the background. Location data is collected only during active Ping sessions and is shared exclusively with your family group members.
Push Notification Tokens
We collect device push notification tokens (FCM/APNs) to send you Ping alerts. These tokens are stored securely and used solely for delivering notifications related to SafePing.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Authenticate your identity via phone number verification
- Display your name and location to family group members during Pings
- Send push notifications for incoming Pings
- Maintain and improve the App’s functionality
- Monitor app performance and diagnose technical issues
4. Data Sharing
Your personal information is shared only with:
- Members of your family group (name, phone number, location during Pings)
- Firebase (Google) for authentication, database, and cloud functions
- Sentry for error tracking and crash reporting (anonymized)
- Mixpanel for anonymous usage analytics
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore) with security rules that restrict access to authorized users only. Location data from Ping sessions is retained for the duration of the Ping and in the ping history. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit (TLS) and at rest.
6. Data Retention
- Account data (name, phone number) is retained as long as your account is active
- Location data is stored only within Ping session records
- Ping history is retained for your family group’s reference
- You can delete your account by leaving your family group and contacting us
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Update your display name at any time
- Revoke location permissions through your device settings
- Leave your family group at any time
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
8. Children’s Privacy
SafePing is intended for family use and may be used by children aged 13 and older with parental consent. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected data from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
9. Third-Party Services
SafePing uses the following third-party services:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database, cloud functions, and push notifications
- Google Maps — map display for Ping locations
- Sentry — error and crash reporting
- Mixpanel — anonymous usage analytics
Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing the data they process.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes through the App. Your continued use of SafePing after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
